Juniata takes two from softball

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team had a lead in each of its two games on Sunday at Juniata, but the Blue Jays were unable to keep hold as the Eagles were able to take two from Etown to open Landmark Conference play.

GAME 1: JUNIATA 3, ELIZABETHTOWN 2
Ashley Judd reached on an error in the second inning that allowed Ashley Mistichelli and Paige Phillips to score. The Jays led 2-0 after two innings.

Juniata (7-5, 2-0 Landmark) scored in the third to cut the deficit to one, and then tacked on a run in the fifth and sixth to tie and take the lead.

Curstin Carpenter had a pinch-hit single in the seventh, but that's all Elizabethtown (6-6, 0-2 Landmark) would get as the Eagles closed out the game for the one-run victory.

GAME 2: JUNIATA 10, ELIZABETHTOWN 7
Olivia Prosser and Maddie Reever both scored on error plays by the Juniata defense in the second inning of game two. Down 1-0 after the first, Elizabethtown took the lead 2-1 on those plays. Reever added an RBI single in the third, one of her three hits in the game. That put Etown ahead 3-1.

The Eagles scored five runs in the fourth as they retook the lead and led 6-3 at the end of the fourth. The Blue Jays answered right back, though. Reever hit the first triple of her career to right center to put a runner in scoring position. She would score on a wild pitch.

Later in the top of the fifth, Grace Hussey and Kadyn Crisswell delivered RBI base hits for Etown to tie the game at 6-6.

Juniata responded with four runs in the sixth to go back in front, 10-6.

Crisswell added her second RBI of the game in the seventh, but Gracie Ruch finished off the Jays to give Juniata the sweep with a 10-7 win in game two.

Crisswell and Reever each had three hits for Elizabethtown in game two. Hussey added two hits and a run scored.

The Blue Jays will play at Dickinson on Tuesday, March 28, at 3 and 5 p.m.
