Langen sets single-game points record, Blue Jays dominate Goucher in Landmark opener

TOWSON, Md. -- Senior Riley Langen accounted for 11 of the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team's 16 goals in Saturday's dominating 16-7 win at Beldon Field to set a new single-game program record with 11 points. The Blue Jays led 10-3 at the half and 15-4 after the third to cruise to the victory in the Landmark Conference opener for both sides. JP Kosakowski played a season-high 43 minutes to earn his first career victory in goal for Etown.

Langen had a goal and two assists in the first quarter as Elizabethtown (5-4, 1-0 Landmark) put it to the Gophers right away. Langen set up Colin Cummings for the game's opening goal just under three minutes in. Lucas Kohler got in on the goal scoring action, picking up the ball near midfield and coasting into the attacking zone. The junior wasn't really tracked so he took advantage, fired off a shot, and beat goalie Justin Lugo for his first of the season to make it 2-0 with 8:51 left in the first.

Ben O'Connor scored his first of five in the game to follow up Kohler's goal. O'Connor would end up tying his single-game career-high with five. He also had the final two goals of the quarter to complete his first-quarter hat trick. Langen and Alex Kilgour had those assists for the Jays as they led 6-1 after one.

Brayden Franey played the first for EC before Kosakowski stepped in at the start of the second quarter. Franey only needed to make three saves in his one quarter of action.

Langen had a hand in all four second-quarter goals for Elizabethtown, first providing the assist on Colin Kondracki's first tally of two in the quarter. It was one of Langen's career-high six assists and three in the second. Then, O'Connor scored goal No. 4 on another Langen feed to make it 8-2. The senior set up Kondracki once again with just over five minutes to go before half after recording an unassisted goal of his own just a minute and a half prior.

The offense kept its foot on the pedal in the third as they started out with four unanswered goals. Derek Baldwin started the 4-0 run before a pair came from Langen, his third and fourth of the game. O'Connor's fifth of the afternoon made it 14-3 with 8:45 left in the third. Langen's fifth of the game, to tie his single-game career-high in goals came as the final goal of the third for Etown.

Up 11, the Jays were able to settle into cruise control on the attack. Langen's school record point came in the fourth as he set up Joey Killpatrick for the man-up goal with 10:03 remaining in regulation.

Will Oberle played the final 1:54 for the Blue Jays. He replaced Kosakowski after his 43:06 and five saves.

Elizabethtown had seven different goal scorers in the contest and a season-high 10 caused turnovers while holding Goucher to the fewest goals against this season (7). Langen and Connor Stewart each had two caused turnovers, Jacob Griffin was 14-for-18 on faceoffs and had a team-high eight ground balls.

The Blue Jays will travel to Scranton next Saturday, April 1, at 1 p.m.
