Washington (Md.) gets away from men's lacrosse in fourth quarter

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Senior Riley Langen stayed hot for the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse as he had a hand in eight of the 11 goals for the Blue Jays in a 14-11 loss at Washington (Md.) Wednesday evening. Langen tallied a new career-high eight points to lead the attack. Connor Stewart and Colin Kondracki also had multi-goal efforts for Etown.

Langen had a goal and two assists for Elizabethtown (1-2) in the first quarter. The Jays were down 4-2 with under five to play in the opening period when Langen set up Kondracki first, and then Stewart to tie the game 4-4 with 19 seconds left in the first.

Washington (Md.) (2-1) got ahead by three, 7-4, in the first five minutes of the second. Langen helped get Etown back within a goal. First, he scored a man up on a dish from Alex Kilgour. Then, as the Jays' defense held the Shoremen scoreless for eight minutes, Langen assisted on Ben O'Connor's goal with two and a half to play before halftime. The Landmark Offensive Athlete of the Week tied for the sixth-most points in a game with his eight (4g, 4a).

The Shoremen scored less than a minute after O'Connor's goal and took an 8-6 lead into the break.

After Washington College restored its three-goal lead early in the third, the Blue Jays rattled off three straight to tie the game up at 9-9. Langen had two of the three while Lucca Scomillio recorded his first career goal for Elizabethtown.

Connor Garrison put the Shoremen up 11-9 just 42 seconds into the fourth. Langen then assisted on Stewart's second of the night to get the Jays back within one. Washington, however, scored four of the first five goals in the quarter as they got out ahead and Etown wasn't able to catch up. Kondracki scored his second of the night late in the game, unassisted.

Brayden Franey made 15 saves in goal for Elizabethtown. Cole Corrigan had 11 saves to get the win for the Shoremen.

Elizabethtown plays at Swarthmore on Saturday, March 4, at 1 p.m.
