ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team dropped their second match in a row as they fell, 3-0 in straight sets to visiting Elmira.
The first set was tight for Elizabethtown and Elmira as there were 14 tied scores in Elmira's, 25-22 win of set one. The Blue Jays started with a 5-4 lead following a
Steve Swain kill. After three consecutive points for the Soaring Eagles, Elmira led by three. An Elmira service error and kill from
Nick Chapman tied up the score, 10-10. After some back-n-forth, Etown rattled off three points in row with a kill from Chapman and two Soaring Eagle attack errors. On a 6-1 run by Elmira the Soaring Eagles recorded five kills which gave them a 17-21 lead. Two final attack errors by Elmira helped the Blue Jays to 22-24 but it wasn't enough as Elmira won, 22-25.
In set two there were just eight tied scores and three lead changes as the Blue Jays recorded just four kills through the set. Elizabethtown jumped to a 12-8 lead after five consecutive points.
Dan Barckholtz tallied two service aces during the run. Two Elmira attack errors extended the Blue Jays lead by four. The Soaring Eagles came within one of Etown before the Blue Jays picked up three in row with a service ace from
Tony Camillo. Elmira then rattled off five points in a row taking a 18-17 lead. Elmira closed out the set on a 7-3 run taking set two, 25-20.
Set three started the same with the two teams trading points early. Kills from Camillo and
Blake Hildebrand brought the Blue Jays out in front, 9-7. Elmira racked up five consecutive points to take a three point lead. A Swain kill brought Etown within two at 11-13. The Blue Jays kept trying to chip away at the Soaring Eagles lead as Swain and Hildebrand smacked down kills at 14-17. To end the set Etown trailed by two to Elmira but the Soaring Eagles recorded two final points winning set three, 25-21.
Swain led the team with nine kills and four digs. Barckholtz totaled 12 assists while
Dustin Hagin added ten digs. Hildebrand and Chapman each tallied five kills.
