SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team got out to a hot start, but nationally-ranked Scranton worked its way back and overtook the Blue Jays and went on to win the Landmark Conference Championship Saturday afternoon at the John Long Center.
Summer McNulty had a team-high 20 points for Etown.
No. 18 Elizabethtown (22-4) was up as much as 11-3 in the first quarter after
Summer McNulty's jumper was good. Scranton's barrage of threes got them back into the game as they shot 6-for-9 in the first half. Etown led 16-13 after one.
The Royals used a big second quarter to get in front as they outscored the Jays 24-16 in the second. Scranton led 37-32 at halftime.
Etown shot just 1-for-13 in the third quarter and managed eight third-quarter points (5-for-6 at the foul line), while the Royals were able to double them up on 6-for-18 shooting and two treys.
The Blue Jays shot better in the fourth, but the deficit was too big to overcome as the Royals wrapped up their eighth straight championship with a 69-54 win over Elizabethtown.
The women's basketball team will wait for Monday's selection show to see if they'll receive an at-large berth for the second straight season. Monday's selection show is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET.
