Gismondi sets single-game points record as men's lacrosse wins season opener at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. -- Junior Gavin Gismondi set a new Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse single-game record for points in Wednesday night's 23-13 win at Arcadia. Gismondi recorded a career-high 10 points (7g, 3a) for the Blue Jays as eight different players scored for Etown in the double-digit win to open the season.

It was a tight game after one quarter of action as Elizabethtown (1-0) held a one-goal lead over the host Knights. Gismondi and Alex Kilgour got the Jays going as they led 2-0, but Arcadia (0-1) responded with two of their own to tie the game. The Blue Jays down a goal with under four minutes left in the first before Derek Baldwin scored a man down and Ben O'Connor took a feed from Riley Langen to give Etown a 6-5 lead after one.

The second quarter belonged to Elizabethtown as they racked up seven goals, five of which came from Gismondi. By halftime, he had six of his career-high seven goals, which is the second-most in a single game by a Blue Jay in program history. He also tied his career-high with three assists.

Etown piled up the goals in the second and took a 13-5 lead into halftime. 

The attack continued to pour it on in the third quarter as the Jays outscored the Knights 9-3 to blow open the game. Baldwin assisted on Langen's goal to end the third quarter as Etown led 22-8 after three.

Colin Cummings registered the Jays' lone goal of the fourth. Jacob Griffin won 12 faceoffs for Elizabethtown grabbed nine ground balls to lead the team. He also added his first goal in an Etown uniform along with an assist. Joel Maragoto had a team-best two caused turnovers for the defense. Brayden Franey made 12 saves in goals before JP Kosakowski came in for the final 7:55 of the contest. In his first collegiate action, Kosakowski made four saves.

Kilgour's six goals tied for the fourth-most in a single game in program history while Langen's five assists also tied for the fourth-most in a game all-time for the Jays.

Elizabethtown will host Stockton on Saturday, February 25, at 12 p.m.
