TOWSON, Md. -- A halftime lead got away from the Elizabethtown College men's basketball team on Saturday as Goucher came back in the second half to beat the Blue Jays, 77-67.
Rance Russo had a team-high 20 points while
Ben Stanton netted a season-best 13 points for Etown in the loss.
Elizabethtown (10-14, 4-10 Landmark) led 6-0 right away thanks to baskets from
Reese Ziegler,
Dylan Rowe, and Russo. Ziegler factored into all three buckets with his own plus two assists. Minutes later,
Niko Georgelis would sink a three to get the lead up to eight with a little over 14 minutes to go in the half, 12-4.
Goucher (3-21, 1-13 Landmark) would work their way back into it and with less than five minutes remaining, they would grab their first lead of the game, by one, on free throws. The teams would trade the lead a few times as the clock wound down. Russo would hit two shots with less than three minutes left, a jumper in the paint and a three on back-to-back possessions and the Jays would take a 39-35 lead into halftime thanks to Stanton's offensive board and put back.
Stanton had the first five points of the second half for Elizabethtown as they lead got up to seven, 44-37. As the Gophers once again made their way back,
Jalin Robinson drilled a three with 10 and a half minutes to go to reestablish a six-point lead for the Jays.
Goucher would hang around and tie up the game, similar to the first half. Both teams traded the lead until around three and a half minutes remaining when the Gophers managed to get away as the Blue Jays were held scoreless over that final stretch.
Darrell Green gave Goucher the lead with his jump at 3:34, 68-67, and they'd put up the final nine points of the contest to hand Etown a 77-67 loss to end the season.
Rowe had a double-double for the Blue Jays with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Georgelis added 12 for EC.
