Blue Jays bounce back with big win at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Senior Cyleigh Wilson led all scorers with 19 points on Saturday at Lycoming as the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team bounced back from their overtime loss earlier in the week. The Blue Jays cruised to an 84-51 win over the Warriors as four players reached double figures in the game.

Elizabethtown (5-2, 1-1 Landmark) turned in one of its top performances of the early season with multiple team season highs in the game. The Blue Jays doubled their previous season best with 10 threes and racked up 21 assists on their 32 made field goals. Etown also tied a season low of nine turnovers as they put up a season-best 84 points.

It was a five-point game nearly midway through the first as Summer McNulty's layup put Etown ahead 14-9. As the clock ticked under five minutes, Wilson drained her first of five threes in the game to extend the lead to eight. The Jays would finish the quarter with an 11-point cushion, 24-13.

The lead was 13 early on in the second, but Lycoming (5-1, 1-1 Landmark) was able to get it back into single digits quickly. That was until Lindsay Boyd and Ella Gordon hit back-to-back shots, a jumper for Boyd and a three from Gordon, to put it right back at 13 with 7:04 to go in the second. Boyd had a season-high 10 points off the bench for Elizabethtown.

The Warriors weren't backing down as the halved a 16-point deficit, getting it down to eight, with 2:48 remaining in the half. Etown led 41-31 at the break.

The Blue Jays piled it on in the third quarter, though. They held Lycoming to 4-for-15 shooting from the floor as they outscored the Warriors 22-9 over 10 minutes. EC, meanwhile, hit over half their third-quarter shots, 8-of-15 (three from distance) and led 63-40 going into the fourth.

There was no let up for Etown as Gordon knocked down another three for the Jays to start the fourth. Allyia Kennedy then hit two shots in a row, a jumper in the paint from Taylor Huyck followed by a layup on Makenna Mummert's assist. Huyck would also get in on the three-point barrage a little later in the quarter.

Ellie Fasick's jumper with a minute and a half to go made it a 30-point game and Kamryn Mengel connected with Katie Haefner with time winding down for the final points for Elizabethtown.

Wilson finished the day 7-for-11 from the field (5-for-9 3PT) for her 19 points. Jessica King posted 16 while McNulty added 13 plus Boyd's 10 to put four in double figures for the Jays. Cass Peris and Kennedy each had seven boards while Wilson, Mummert, and Peris had four assists each.

Elizabethtown will host Susquehanna on Saturday, December 9, at 4 p.m.
