Blue Jays Sweep Wilkes, Rutgers-Camden

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.— The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team completed their third sweep of the weekend as they took down Wilkes in Landmark Conference play before downing, Rutgers-Camden.
 
ELIZABETHTOWN: 3 WILKES: 0
Elizabethtown was firing on all cylinders in set one against Wilkes as they cruised to a 25-9 win. The Colonels claimed the first two points before Etown tallied the next seven to take a 7-2 lead. Kills from Georgianna Kahley and Savannah Lesley sandwiched a Lucy Stern ace to extend the Blue Jays lead, 10-3. Etown kept pulling ahead as Kahley smacked down two straight kills. Wilkes earned their final point off an Etown service error before the Jays took off recording the final eight points to win. Karlee Ray and Katie Scaggs recorded kills on the run while the two also teamed up for a block assist.

Set two started closer as Wilkes came out to an early, 7-6 lead after an ace and a kill. Etown tallied three points in a row to tie up the set, 11-11. Gracie Britten, Lesley, and Kahley contributed kills on a four-point run, putting the Blue Jays out in front 17-13. Britten smacked down another kill, keeping the Blue Jays lead to five-points. The Colonels added three more kills before Lesley and Katie Scaggs secured the final two points to win, 25-19.

To begin set three, Elizabethtown rattled off the first four points with kills from Scaggs and Emma Bitner. Wilkes came back to tie up the set at 5-5 before jumped to a 12-5 lead after seven points in a row. Lesley totaled four of the seven points. Campbelle Dayley and Britten came up with a block to bring the score to, 16-9. The Colonels then went on a 6-1 run to come within two of the Blue Jays. A kill from Scaggs and two Wilkes attack errors pulled Etown out to a 20-15 lead. Wilkes again came close at 21-19 and again at 24-23 before a Colonels setting error ended the set, 25-23 Etown.
Elizabethtown recorded a team season-high hitting percentage of .436. Lesley led the team with 11 kills (.500). Kahley and Scaggs each totaled nine kills and two block assists. Bitner tallied 31 assists as she comes with just 100 assists of a career 1000.

ELIZABETHTOWN: 3 RUTGERS-CAMDEN 0
Set one started with Elizabethtown coming out full force as they led, 8-4 after five straight points. The Raptors then got things going as they tied up the set, 9-9. Etown once again pulled away as Britten recorded two kills. The Blue Jays then rattled off six points in row to come just within one of set point. Ray, Kahley, and Scaggs down kills on the run. Rutgers-Camden added three more points before Scaggs tallied the final kill to win, 25-15.

Set two again started with Etown out in front, leading 6-3. The two teams traded points before the Raptors tallied four straight as they took a 9-8 lead. After some more back and forth, four Raptor errors sandwiched a Britten kill, bringing the score to, 17-14. Etown was once again on fire tallying six straight with Lesley and Bitner adding points. Kahley ended the set smacking down a kill to win, 25-18.

Set three started with the teams trading points until Bitner added two aces to lead, 10-4. After four points in a row, Rutgers-Camden tied the set, 12-12. The Blue Jays then jumped to a 24-12 after tallying an astounding ten points in a row. Rutgers-Camden grabbed two more points before Bec Ayers recorded the final kill to win 25-14.
Lesley totaled 17 digs while Kambrie Hepler totaled 13. Kahley and Scaggs led the team with eight kills and Britten added seven.

The Blue Jays host Goucher on October 31 at 7PM for their final Landmark Conference match of the regular season.
