Women's soccer clinches postseason berth with 3-0 win over Lycoming

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- There's no better time to score your first career goals than when your team needs them the most and that's what the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team got from Caleigh Bold and Elizabeth Rajnik on Saturday in the regular season finale at Herr Field. A win would ensure a postseason berth for Etown and that's what they did with a 3-0 win over Lycoming. Jenna Hoffmann also scored for EC.

Elizabethtown (5-8-3, 3-4-2 Landmark) controlled much of the game with their possession and spending plenty of time in their attacking half. Bold finished off the Jays' corner play in the 29th minute as Bailey Groff delivered a ball from the near side corner toward the back post. The ball deflected back out toward the penalty spot and Bold was there to smash it home for Etown to make it 1-0. It was the first goal of Bold's career.

The Blue Jays held Lycoming (6-4-7, 1-3-5 Landmark) to just two shots in the first half and led 1-0 at the break.

Hoffmann netted her team-leading sixth of the season in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Groff played a diagonal ball out to the right for Marissa Vandernick. The junior took a few touches and lined up a cross into the middle of the box that met the head of Hoffmann, who powered one home for the Jays to make it 2-0.

Rajnik checked in to the game at the 78:06 mark and at 78:59 had her first career goal. The Jays held possession near the end line on the near side where Maddie McWhinney was able to beat her defender to the touch line and whip in a cross. Rajnik was in a similar spot to Hoffmann and her header eluded a diving attempt from the keeper and into the right side for her first of the year. It also extended McWhinney point streak to five consecutive games.

Adrienne McGallicher made three saves in just over 76 minutes before Rena Rankin came on for the final 13 and change.

Elizabethtown will travel to Moravian for a Landmark quarterfinal on Tuesday, October 31.
