Blue Jays, Warriors battle to a draw in regular season finale

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --  The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team welcomed Lycoming to Ira R. Herr Field for the first time as Landmark members on Saturday, the first time the schools have met since they were both in the MAC. The Blue Jays and Warriors went scoreless over 90 minutes to finish in a scoreless draw.

There weren't too many threatening chances from either side through the first 20 minutes, though Elizabethtown (8-6-3, 5-3-1 Landmark) did earn a penalty in the 26th minute after Jude Ashley was clashed into from behind in the box. Lycoming (10-3-6, 7-0-2 Landmark) goalie Nick Wilke guessed correctly on the penalty kick to make the save and keep it 0-0.

The Warriors had the shot advantage in the first half, but Kelvin Del Cid only needed to make one save as the teams went to the break tied.

Ashley had Etown's best chance of the second half in the 56th minute, latching onto a ball in the box. The sophomore was a little off balance as his turnaround shot bounced into the hands of Wilke.

Del Cid was needed later in the half, however, and came up with a huge save in the 77th minute, stopping Jaeden Asare who was in on goal. Del Cid also made another big save in the 86th minute on Thomas Geyer to keep it 0-0.

The Warriors' defense did a solid job of limiting the Jays around the box. Elizabethtown finished with only five shots, three on goal.

The Blue Jays were locked into the three-seed regardless of the outcome of the game and will host sixth-seeded Goucher on Tuesday, October 31, at 7 p.m. at Herr Field.
