Men's soccer drops road contest at Goucher

TOWSON, Md. -- An early goal for Goucher turned out to be the only one of Saturday's Landmark Conference matchup between the Gophers and the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team. The Gophers held on for the 1-0 win to snap Etown's two-game conference win streak.

Goucher (8-5-2, 3-4-1 Landmark) needed three points to keep pace with the Landmark playoff picture. Bobby Beringer helped the cause in the fourth minute with his goal to put the Gophers ahead 1-0. Goucher had the first six shots of the game before Thomas Smith's header was on target, but saved by Ale Sternini.

Smith's chance came in the 17th minute and Mehluko Letsoalo had another opportunity to level the game in the 19th minute, though his chance was also stopped by Sternini.

Goucher's 1-0 lead held up, though it continued to be tested. Pedro Vinent had his header on Cade Brubaker's corner kick saved in the 80th minute. Letsoalo had Elizabethtown's (7-6-2, 5-3-0 Landmark) final go at goal, in the 84th minute, but once again Sternini made the save. He had five in the game for the Gophers.

The Blue Jays will play their final non-conference game of the regular season on Thursday, October 26th, at 7 p.m. Thursday night is also Senior Night for Etown.
