ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team took care of business Tuesday night at Ira R. Herr Field as they shut out Moravian 1-0.
Elizabethtown (7-5-2, 5-2-0 Landmark) nearly went up a goal in the first ten minutes, though
Mehluko Letsoalo's shot caromed off the right post and stayed out.
The Blue Jays spent much of the half winning the possession battle, however that didn't turn into any goals. Neither side could crack the scoresheet through 45 minutes.
Less than ten minutes into the second half, Etown did break through thanks to the hustle of
Pedro Vinent.
Pedro Guizardi played
Gavin Domsohn into the box and his attempt toward goal took a deflection and bounced near the goal mouth, where Vinent finished off the play with his third of the season to put the Jays ahead in the 55th minute.
Kelvin Del Cid was used more in possession and clearance than he was truly needed in stopping any dangerous opportunities from Moravian (4-6-4, 2-4-1 Landmark). The Jays' defense did a commendable job of keeping the ball in front and their keeper clean. Though it was only a 9-8 advantage in shots for Elizabethtown, the Greyhounds only had one shot on goal in 90 minutes of play.
Moravian pushed up the field late, but were unable to generate anything threatening, even off a handful of corner kicks.
The men's soccer team will play at Goucher on Saturday, October 21, at 1 p.m.
