WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Down a pair in the first half, the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team hung in and dug its way back out of a hole to earn a 2-2 draw at Catholic thanks to the goal scoring of two seniors.
Elizabethtown (3-7-2, 1-3-1 Landmark) found itself down early after Ava Gregorio put the Cardinals up 1-0 in the fourth minute. Jordan Siok tacked on a PK goal in the 13th minute to make it 2-0 in the early goings at Carlini Field for Catholic (6-4-3, 2-1-2 Landmark).
The Blue Jays were able to work themselves back into late in the game as
Maddie McWhinney produced her first of the season to get Etown back within a goal in the 84th minute.
Less than three minutes later,
Elizabeth Rajnik found
Bailey Groff for the equalizer and her second of the season to make it 2-2 in the 87th minute. Rajnik's assist was her first career point.
Rena Rankin, who got the start Tuesday night, made a save late to keep it tied and help preserve the draw and a valuable away point in the conference standings for the Jays.
Elizabethtown will host Wilkes on Homecoming Saturday, October 14, at 4:30 p.m.
