ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Junior
Pedro Guizardi gave the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team a first-half lead but the Cardinals responded and wound up doubling up the Blue Jays Tuesday night at Ira R. Herr Field, 2-1.
It was scoreless through the first 25 minutes of action until a penalty kick was awarded to Elizabethtown (5-5-2, 3-2-0 Landmark).
Pedro Guizardi stepped up to take the PK and buried it, in the 28th minute, to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.
It didn't take too long for Catholic (7-5-1, 4-0-1 Landmark) to respond as Domenico Caltabiano tied the game up at 1-1 in the 36th minute. It went 1-1 into halftime.
After being outshot 8-2 in the first half, Etown got its attack going and outshot the Cardinals over the final 45, 9-6. The only issue was, Catholic was able to convert one of its shots into a goal while the Blue Jays could not.
Andrew Lowman's first of the season was the game-winner coming in the 59th minute on a cross from Ben Zimmer, helped on by Caltabiano.
Goalie Owen Allegro made a few stops in the second half and kept his team ahead after they took the lead.
Elizabethtown will host Wilkes on Saturday, October 14, at 1 p.m. for Homecoming.
