FREDERICK, Md.-- The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team extended their win-streak to five as they swept Hood College on the road, Tuesday evening.
The Blue Jays flew to a 10-3 start at Hood after a kill and ace from
Logan Smith. Hood would chip away at Elizabethtown's lead as the two teams traded points until 12-7, Etown. Elizabethtown (5-1) then went on a 6-2 run as numerous Blazer errors gave the Blue Jays free points. Hood came within seven of Etown at 19-13 after a Blazer kill. Kills from
Trey Weedon and
Blake Hildebrand brought the score to 21-14. A block by
Cheston Jacobs and Smith followed by a service ace by
Nate Seeger gave the Blue Jays a, 25-17 win in set one.
To start the second set, Hood kept pace with Elizabethtown as the Blazers trailed by one at 5-4. With two kills apiece from Weedon and Hildebrand along with two service aces, the Blue Jays led Hood by three. Through 17-15, the two went back-n-forth with Elizabethtown still holding the lead. Three points in a row from Etown brought the Blue Jays five-points away from set-point. Two Smith kills and one from
Cole Burkhardt gave Etown the 25-18 win in set two.
Set three saw Hood jump to an early, 11-2 lead over Elizabethtown. Etown slowly began to chip away at Hoods lead as the Blue Jays went on a 6-0 run to come just within three points of the Blazers. Two
Ethan Scott service aces and four Blazer errors brought Etown closer to Hood. The Blue Jays kept gaining momentum back as they went on a 8-1 run. Kills from Hildebrand, Smith and Scott along with a Hildebrand ace put the Blue Jays out in front once again to win, 25-21.
Smith (.368) and Hildebrand (.467) each led the team with nine kills. Smith also recorded four service aces and two block assists. Scott grabbed 15 assists and four digs.
Elizabethtown will host Misericordia this Thursday at 7PM.
