Blue Jays Defeat Eastern in Four-Set Thriller

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team picked up their third straight win of the season as they move to 3-1 after defeating Eastern, Thursday evening. 

The first set started close as kills from Logan Smith and Tony Camillo made the score, 3-4 early. Elizabethtown tied up the set, 8-8 following kills by Camillo and Chestin Jacobs along with an ace from Jacobs. The Blue Jays led, 15-13 after a Logan Smith service ace. As the teams traded points, Jacobs and Chapman tied up the set at 19-19. In a close race to the end neither team would give up more than a two-point lead. Etown won the first set, 26-24 after a Smith kill and an Eastern attack error. 

Eastern fought back in set two as the Eagles started off with an 8-3 lead after two consecutive aces. The Blue Jays came back within two after three points in a row. After Chapman smacked down a kill and three Eagle attack errors, the Blue Jays tied up the set, 10-10. Etown kept the set close as Chapman and Camillo put down kills. Elizabethtown trailed by two at 19-21. Eastern tallied two final kills to win, 25-20. 

Elizabethtown returned strong in set three as they jumped to a 15-6 lead with kills from Chapman and Kyle McKiernan. The Blue Jays went up by eight points as Nate Seeger assisted Smith on a kill. Eastern cut Etown's lead, 18-14 after tallying four points in a row. Steve Swain put down a kill as Etown led, 19-14. The Eagles gained momentum recording four consecutive points to come within one of Elizabethtown. Chapman and Camillo sealed the Blue Jays win in set three at, 25-22. 

In set four, Etown jumped in front, 5-2 after two Swain kills. After trading points, the Blue Jays put up five points in a row with the a kill from Swain and a block from Smith and Jacobs. Etown held a substantial lead at 18-12 following a Chapman kill. Two Swain kills brought the Blue Jays closer to match point at 23-18. Eastern recorded two final points before Swain smacked down one final kill. 

Elizabethtown hit .197 while Eastern hit .144. The Blue Jays hit their best .214 in set two which they lost to Easter, 20-25. As a team the Blue Jays totaled 11 total blocks to the Eagles four. Swain led the team with 13 kills and four digs. Chapman totaled 12 kills while hitting .381. Seegar totaled 21 assists and Camillo led the team with five block assists. 

Etown will travel to take on Stevenson this Saturday, January 28th at 1 PM.
