Turnovers Cost Blue Jays at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's basketball team dropped their second straight Landmark Conference match after falling, 68-72 at Scranton in the John Long Center, Friday evening. 

Elizabethtown came out strong as they started the game with a 7-2 lead over Scranton following a Rance Russo three-pointer. Four consecutive Etown layups from Dylan Rowe, Russo, and Malik Hudges extended the Blue Jays lead, 17-6. Jalin Robinson sunk two three's at the midway point of the first half bringing Elizabethtown up by 12 points. The Royals went on a 9-0 run as they chipped away at Etown's lead. Elizabethown brought themselves back up by ten points with just three minutes remaining in the half. A layup from Niko Georgelis at the two-minute mark made the score, 39-29. In the final minutes, Scranton gained momentum as they ended the half with Etown leading, 39-37. 

In the second half, Scranton got their first lead of the game, two minutes in following a three-pointer. For the next several minutes the teams traded points as neither could lead by more than two. At the 6:56 minute mark, Austin Finarelli made two free-throws tying it up at 61 all. With 2:30 minutes remaining, Finarelli sunk a three as the Blue Jays trailed, 68-70. In the final seconds, Scranton seals their win by making both free-throws to win 72-68. 

Russo again led the team with 17 points and four rebounds. Rowe recorded double-digits for the first time since December 12, 2022 as he put up 15 points. Elizabethtown shot 49.0% from the field with 32 points in the paint. Scranton just shot 48.3% from the field and tallied 24 points off turnovers. 

Etown will be back in action, this Sunday January 15 at 5 PM at The Palestra in Philly as they face Juniata.
