ST. DAVID'S, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team continues with a perfect record to start the season as they defeated McDaniel, 3-1 (25-13, 25-18, 13-25, 25-15) Friday evening at the Eastern Invitational.
The Blue Jays jumped to an early, 7-3 to start off the first set following a kill from
Georgianna Kahley. Etown continued to gain momentum throughout the first set as they extended their lead by ten after a McDaniel kill. Etown took a 21-12 advantage after
Gianna Krinock, Georgianna, and
Katie Scaggs each put down a kill while
Gracie Britten added two. The ten-point lead forced a Green Terror timeout but that didn't stop the Blue Jays as
Kara Davies and Krinock added the final kills of the set before a bad set by McDaniel gave Etown the opening frame victory at 25-13.
The second set started off different as McDaniel came out with a 7-2 lead following a service ace. The Green Terror continued with strong momentum midway through the set before an Elizabethtown run. The Blue Jays took over the lead after
Savannah Lesley recorded two service aces for a 13-12 lead. Through the end of the set the two teams traded points before Etown tallied the final three points of the set to win, 25-18.
The third frame was tightly contested with Etown and McDaniel trading points to start off. The Blue Jays took a two-point lead following a kill from Lesley before the Green Terror rattled off six straight points for a 10-6 lead. Throughout the set, Etown continued to play catch up as they came within three after two kills. McDaniel continued to inch away from the Blue Jays, taking a 17-10 lead after an Etown attack error. The Blue Jays couldn't recover as McDaniel went on a five-point rally to take set three, 25-13.
Elizabethtown came back with a vengeance in the fourth set taking an 8-2 lead after Davies put down a kill. Two consecutive kills from the Blue Jays forced a Green Terror timeout as they took a 10-3 lead.
Bryanna Miller gave the Blue Jays a ten-point lead after she rattled off three service aces. The two teams traded points for a while, but McDaniel couldn't catch up as Britten added her fifth kill of the night. Elizabethtown kept cruising along with a ten-point lead. The Blue Jays were up 23-12 after a Davies kill. A McDaniel attack error closed out the match as Etown took the final set, 25-15.
Krinock led the team with eight kills (.350) and eight digs while Kahley recorded seven kills (.263) and four block assists. Davies and Miller each totaled six kills a piece with Davies adding four block assists and Miller adding six service aces.
Elizabethtown will face invitational host Eastern tomorrow, September 10
th at 10 AM before taking on Gallaudet at 12 PM to finish out the weekend.
