Blue Jays Snag First Win of the Season with Two Second Half Goals

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team earned its first win of the season, topping Eastern Mennonite, 2-0, Sunday afternoon on Ira R. Herr Field.

With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Royals fall to 0-2.

Seniors Jeffery Bennett and Ryan Hepler each scored a goal for Etown. Sophomore Hayden Oldham and freshman Aidan Valentine each tallied an assist.

After a scoreless first half, the Blue Jays found the game winner in 85th minute. Picking off a pass in the center of the park, Bennett served a ball to the right corner to start the counter. Oldham ran onto the pass and crossed back to the front of the goal. After a scrum in front of the goalie with a shot from Valentine, Bennett ran onto the play and buried the rebound into the back of the net  for the 1-0 lead.

10 minutes later, junior Gavin Domshon was able to draw a penalty kick, setting up a shot from the spot for Hepler. The Mountville, Pa. native stepped up and buried the shot for what proved to be the final goal of the game, giving Etown the 2-0 win.

Senior Kelvin Del Cid (1-1) earned his first shutout of the season, making one save on six shots faced. Freshman Andrew Arledge (0-2) took the loss, allowing two goals on 18 shots face and making four saves.
