ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Senior goalie
Kelvin Del Cid made a couple crucial saves for the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team Wednesday night as the Blue Jays drew with Alvernia, 0-0.
Elizabethtown (2-2-1) had an early opportunity to get on the board, but the shot was off target. Del Cid made his first save of the night in the 11th minute to keep it 0-0.
Gavin Domsohn gave it a go for the Jays in the 17th minute from outside the 18, but Evan Solley made the save in goal for Alvernia (2-1-2).
After a scoreless first half, Del Cid was needed a few more times in the second half to keep it tied at zeros.
He stopped a shot from Austin Chambers in the 51st minute, then saves on shots from Nick Denlinger in the 54th and 55th minutes.
Later in the second half, Del Cid made a sprawling save on Ryan Cogill attempt, diving to his right to parry the ball away for a Golden Wolves' corner.
Etown's best chance of the second half came on
Hayden Oldham's opportunity in the 82nd minute. Oldham got into the box, but from a tight angle, couldn't beat Solley.
A late chance from
Ryan Hepler went wide in the 85th minute and the game would wind up a 0-0 tie. Del Cid finished the night with five saves for the Jays. Solley made two for Alvernia.
The men's soccer team will travel to Cairn on Saturday, September 17, for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup with the Highlanders.
