LANGHORNE, Pa. -- While the stats favored the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team, the final score did not as Cairn defeated the Blue Jays 2-1 Saturday night in non-conference action.
Ed Rainey scored the lone goal for the Blue Jays.
Jesse Brittain put Cairn (2-2-2) ahead 1-0 in the 10th minute of play, which they would carry into the second half after holding the Jays scoreless through 45 minutes.Â
Despite a big advantage in shots in the second half, Elizabethtown (2-3-1) had to work to get its goal. Finally, in the 75th minute,
Cade Brubaker found
Ed Rainey for his second of the season to level the match at 1-1.
The celebration didn't last long, however, as the Highlanders retook the lead minutes later on Moses Beers' go-ahead goal in the 76th minute.
Ryan Hepler and
Tyler King each had late chances saved as Cairn held on for the 2-1 win.
Elizabethtown will host nationally ranked Messiah on Wednesday, September 21, at 7:30 p.m.
