ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball picked up a big win against Dickinson College, Tuesday evening. The Blue Jays got off to a slower start falling, 25-20 in set one but then came back to win, 25-21, 25-18, and 25-15.
Dickinson started off set one, 5-2 following an Elizabethtown attack error. The two teams traded points as the Blue Jays played catch up. After three consecutive Red Devil points, Dickinson took a 12-5 lead. Shortly after, Etown picked up their momentum taking the next five points after a kill from Gianna Krinock. Dickinson kept fighting after a bit more back and forth, the Red Devils raced to a 19-12 lead. Kills from Gracie Britten and Bryanna Miller brought the Blue Jays within two, but Dickinson took the final three points to win, 25-20.
Set two started off differently as Etown started off with a 6-2 lead following three Dickinson attack errors. Elizabethtown and Dickinson went back and forth for a while as the Red Devils took over with a 14-13 lead. The Blue Jays retook the lead after a Miller kill and service ace. Jena Minnick then smacked down a kill, leading 22-19. For the final points the two went traded points but ultimately Etown came out with a 25-21 win.
The Blue Jays once again jumped out to a 6-2 lead in set three. Katie Scaggs put down two kills in a row to double Elizabethtown's lead, 12-6. After some back and forth, a kill from Britten set the Jays up by seven. Kills from Georgianna Kahley, Emma Bitner, and Scaggs got Etown in the position of set point at 24-17. Dickinson added one final point before a Dickinson attack error gave Etown the 25-18 win.
Set four saw Elizabethtown come out full force as the Jays leaped to a 10-2 lead over the Red Devils. The teams began to go back and forth before a kill from Britten. Etown rattled off four consecutive points after two kills from Scaggs, one from Kahley and a Dickinson attack error. Dickinson then took the next five points but the Blue Jays closed out the match as Kahley and Britten went up for a block to win, 25-15.
Scaggs paced the match with 14 kills while hitting .464 and adding seven block assists. Scaggs' 14 kills are also a new career high. Kambrie Hepler recorded 19 digs and five assists. Bitner totaled 25 assists while Miller totaled nine kills and 14 digs.
Elizabethtown returns to action this Thursday, September 15th at 7 PM in Thompson Gymnasium.
