ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team celebrated its senior day in style with a 2-0 shutout win over Stevenson at Ira R. Herr Field.
Cassidy Pawlicki scored her first career goal and
Trinity Soto helped the combined clean sheet with
Adrienne McGallicher and
Rena Rankin.
Jenna Hoffmann also scored her team-leading third of the season in the win.
The ball was played across the top of Stevenson's (0-4) box and a defender was able to get a foot on the ball and direct it away, but it was right in the line of Hoffmann. The freshman, in one motion, sent a curling shot toward the far post that the keeper was able to get her gloves on, but it wasn't enough to keep the ball out of the goal. That put Etown ahead 1-0 in the ninth minute.
Elizabethtown (2-2) controlled a lot of the ball and the game and took their 1-0 lead comfortably into halftime.
In the second half,
Bailey Groff pushed a ball out to
Ava Whisten near the right touchline and sideline. The sophomore played a first-time ball into the box that bounced and reached the head of Pawlicki, who was left unmarked near the back post. The goalie sprawled across the mouth of the goal while Pawlicki sent her header the opposite way, leaving no chance to keep it from 2-0. It was her first career goal.
Soto made a couple saves through 75 minutes, but went relatively untested in net as the defense had done its job in front of her. McGallicher and Rankin split up the final 15 minutes to preserve the clean sheet.
Elizabethtown will host Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday, September 13, at 7 p.m.
