ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- There were a number of impressive performances from the Elizabethtown College women's track & field team this weekend at the Blue Jay Tune Up. That includes junior
Trinity Soto resetting her own discus school record on Saturday as Etown won its home meet with 172 points.
Soto, who finished second in the hammer on Friday in the first day of the two-day meet, was back at it on Saturday. She threw 38.84m in the discus to take second, but break her own school record by three feet, four inches. Soto also set a new personal record in the hammer at 38.79m (127'3") and moved from eighth to seventh all-time.
DaniRae Renno was third in the discus at 36.87m (120'11"), also a PR for the freshman. Her mark moved her from third to second all-time behind her teammate, Soto.
Elizabethtown had four athletes take first in their events, two on the track and two in the field.
Marissa Lapinsky ran a new 800m personal best to win the event in 2:15.12. She took herself from sixth to third all-time with her performance.
Kelty Oaster was a very close second, right behind Lapinsky in 2:15.27.
Hallie Weaver was one of four Blue Jays to place in the 1500m. Weaver won it in 4:58.70.
Bridget Kennedy was fifth,
Kylie Evoy finished seventh, and
Axel Georgieff took eighth.Â
Sydney Detky become only the seventh sprinter to run sub-13.0 in the 100m with her 12.96 in the final. That time earned her second and moved her from eighth to seventh all-time.
Brooklyne Wiley also took second in the 3,000m steeplechase in 12:19.89.
Victoria Wert was one of a few that finished third for the Jays. Wert ran 1:02.35 in the 400m.
Melissa Fitzgibbon placed third in the 5,000m and
Laura Cardona took third in the 400m hurdles. Cardona was sixth in the 100m hurdles in 17.07, which was a new PR and took her from eighth to fifth on the all-time list. The 4x100m of
Melissa Patton,
Sarah Habiballah,
Natalie Shearer, and Detky ran 52.76, also third.
Erin Miller won the javelin at 42.25m (138'7"), a new personal best for the sophomore. It improves her fourth-place standing on the all-time list and would currently put her 10th in Division III. Habiballah was eighth at 29.03m.
Detky cleared a new height in the high jump, getting over 1.60m (5'3") to win the event. She also moved from a fifth-place tie to a fourth-place tie at the mark all-time.
Jocelynn Itterly gave Etown the one-two finish as she placed second at 1.55m.
Abigail Buffington finished third in the triple jump at 10.09m with Habiballah taking fourth. Habiballah was also fourth in the long jump at 4.56m.
Mylea Neidig threw 10.60m (34'9-1/2") in the shot put to take fourth.
Maura Bradney was seventh at 10.19m.
Devin Riss cleared 2.74m in the pole vault to take fifth and
Kaede Goodeliunas was seventh.
Elizabethtown's 4x400m relays were fourth and ninth, respectively.
The women's track & field team will compete at next weekend's Landmark Outdoor Championships, which begin Saturday, May 7, at Juniata College.
