Blue Jays set program record, tie Landmark record on Senior Day

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team celebrated its talented senior class prior to Saturday's game against Goucher. The seniors then played a large part in Etown's new program record 28 goals to tie the Landmark Conference record. The Jays rolled past the Gophers, 28-4. Six players had hat tricks for the Blue Jays and Danny Gilbert set a new single-game record for ground balls. The team also tied for the most points in a single game with 44.

Goucher (2-14, 1-6 LC) hung around with the Blue Jays through the first half of the first quarter. After Micah Ballew scored the first of his game-high four goals 48 seconds into the game, Jared Halverson answered for the Gophers to tie the game at 1-1. Less than a minute later, Kilgour found the back of the cage for his first of the afternoon to restore the lead back to Elizabethtown (10-6, 5-1 Landmark).

Gavin Gismondi and Ballew made it 4-1 before Milan Temple scored a man up goal with 9:02 to go in the first that cut the deficit to 4-2. From that point, it was all Blue Jays. Etown tallied five more times in the first and led 9-3 after one. Kilgour, Nick Cost, Owen Yake, Langen, and Ballew recorded the final five goals. Cost, Kilgour, Langen, and Danny Gilbert each had assists.

Derek Baldwin got the scoring started in the second quarter as the Jays outscored Goucher 7-0. Gismondi, Langen (2), Ballew, Eric Hoover, and Ben O'Connor registered second quarter goals to send Etown into halftime ahead 16-3. Talbott played the first half, making four saves for Elizabethtown.

The attack kept its pace in the third quarter, putting up seven more goals. Five of the seven had assists attached as the offense moved the ball well and found cutters ready for the ball. Kilgour connected with Cost to start the third, making it 17-3 just 40 seconds in. O'Connor netted a man-up goal of his own off a feed from Colin Cummings less than two minutes later.

The Gophers only goal of the second half came on Jack McDermott's man-up goal with 10:49 left in the third, from there, goalies Brayden Franey, Alec Newman, and Will Oberle did not allow another.

Gilbert, who set a single-game program record with his 18 ground balls, dominated faceoffs, winning 24-of-27. The senior got his goal seven seconds after Kondracki had scored his first of the day with a few minutes left in the third. Gilbert won the face-off, grabbed the ball, and jetted down the field for the goal. Colin Johnson found Yake for the final goal of the third quarter in transition as the Blue Jays got the ball back defensively and countered quickly to complete the third quarter at 23-4.

Kondracki (2), Baldwin, Alex Ly, and O'Connor scored for the Jays in the fourth as they wound up tying the conference record for goals in a game with 28. Lucas Kohler provided the assist on Baldwin's goal with 10:23 remaining, Hoover helped Kondracki complete his hat trick with 9:48 to go, and Joey Killpatrick dished to O'Connor to earn his hat trick with 5:47 left.

Six players had at least a goal and an assist for Elizabethtown while 10 players had at least a goal or an assist for the Blue Jays, who racked up 28 goals on 16 assists for 44 points to tie a program record set just 10 days ago against Moravian. Gilbert, TJ Chapman, and Graham Temple combined to go 31-for-35 on face-offs for Etown, which was also a school record for face-offs won.

The men's lacrosse team will host third-seeded Scranton on Wednesday, May 4, at 4 p.m. for a Landmark Conference semifinal at Wolf Field. Admission will be charged for the semifinal game as guests arrive.
