Men's Lacrosse Punches Ticket to Landmark Conference Championship with Comeback Win Over Scranton

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse overcame a two-goal deficit in the second half to top Scranton 18-16 in the Landmark Conference Semifinals Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 11-6 overall, while the Royals finish the season 11-7. This is Etown's sixth consecutive trip to the Landmark Conference Championship game.

Junior Riley Langen paced the Etown offense with five, tallying three goals and two assists. Classmate Colin Cummings and sophomore Gaving Gismondi each finished with three goals and one assist and Senior Alex Kilgour added two goals and one assist.

Junior Mitchell Kozak led all scorers with six points, registering four goals and two assists. 

Tied at three heading into the second quarter, Etown started the period on a 6-2 run to take a 9-5 lead with 7:13 remaining in the half. Langen had two goals and an assist over this stretch. Scranton responded before the intermission, scoring three of the final four goals to make the halftime score 10-8. 

The Royals continued to hold the momentum in the third quarter, rattling off four consecutive goals to go ahead 12-10 after a goal from Kozak with 8:15 left in the third. The Blue Jay battled back to even as the two teams entered the final quarter all square art 14. 

The two teams traded goals all the way to 16 before senior Nick Cost found classmate Ben O'Connor on the doorstep for his first of the game and a one goal advantage at 17-16 with 7:32 remaining. Cummings then sealed the game for the Blue Jays, findining space on the left side, sliding to the front of the goal and rifling a shot home for the two goal advantage (18-16) with 4:18 remaining. The Etown defense stood tall the rest of the, preserving the 18-16 win and moving the Blue Jays to the Landmark Conference Championship game.

Sophomore Brayden Franey (10-5) earned the win, making eight saves on 44 shots faced. Freshman Evan Rosa (9-5) matched Franey, making eight saves of his own on 44 shots in the losing effort.

Senior Danny Gilbert won 23-38 face-offs, collected a game-high 13 ground balls, and added a goal of his own. Senior Wes Mills recorded a game-high two caused turnovers and sophomore Derek Baldwin added two of his own.

Elizabethtown is back in action on Saturday, May 7 at Catholic for the Landmark Conference Championship. Opening face-off is TBA.
