Blue Jays Keep Rolling in Win Against River Hawks

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - For the third straight game, the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team score more than 20 goals in a win, topping Susquehanna, 23-7, in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 9-6 overall and 4-1 in league play, while the River Hawks falls to 8-8 on the season and 2-4 in the Landmark.

Seniors Owen Yake and Micah Ballew each finished with a game-high seven points, as Yake tallied five goals and two assists and Ballew registered four goals and three assists. Junior Riley Langen scored four goals and added one assist, while senior Nick Cost recorded one goal and three assists. 

Freshman Brennan Lorence paced the Susquehanna offense with four goals and two assists.

It was another fast start for Etown Saturday afternoon, cruising out to a 10-1 lead in the first quarter as junior Colin Cummings found Cost for double digits with 19 seconds remaining. The Blue Jays continued to control the game in the second period, outscoring the River Hawks 6-3 in the quarter for the 16-4 halftime lead.

Senior Alex Kilgour put the final touches on another big win for Etown, scoring two goals in the third quarter to give the Blue Jays a 21-5 advantage after three. The two teams scored two goals apiece in the final period, as Elizabethtown wrapped up the 23-7 victory.

Sophomore Brayden Franey (9-5) played the first three quarters in the win, making six saves. Classmate Alec Newman came in for the final 15 minutes and added six saves of his own.

Junior Jozef Korpics (5-8) took the loss for Susquehanna, making one saves and allowing seven goals in the opening 9:16.

Senior Danny Gilbert won 14-26 face-offs and collected six ground balls. Senior Wes Mills had a career day on the defensive side of the ball picking up a team-high nine ground balls and causing four turnovers. 

Elizabethtown is back in action on Saturday, April 30 against Goucher. Opening face-off is set for 1 p.m.
