ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College baseball team fell to #14 Arcadia, 5-3, in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 15-15 overall, wile the Knights improve to 25-4.
Senior
Tyler McGonigle finished the game going 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Classmates
Robbie Bertucio and
Joey Thomas each also tallied and RBI while sophomore
AJ Bednar recorded Etown's only extra base hit, a double down the left field line. The Blue Jays had their opportunities in the game, leaving eight runners on base.
Senior Connor Cheeseman paced the Arcadia offense, finishing with a game-high three RBI.
After the Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, Etown got one back in the bottom of the frame. With runners on first and second and one out, Bertucio stepped in and knocked a single to right field plating McGonigle to make the score 2-1.
Arcadia pushed its lead to 4-1 going to the bottom of the fifth when the Blue Jays managed to get another run back. With two outs and a runner on second, McGonigle singled to center field, scoring junior
Justin Wetzel and cutting the deficit to two (4-2).
An RBI single from Thomas in the bottom of the eighth made the score 5-3 with two out, brining the tying run to the plate. The Knights, however, would work out of the jam and then put the Blue Jays down in order in the bottom of the ninth to win their 25th of the season, 5-3.
Junior
Ben Watson (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits.Â
Junior Zach Steiger (3-0) earned the win pitching four innings and allowing one earned run on two hits and struck out two. Senior Owen Margolis tallied his sixth save of the season, pitching a perfect ninth with one strikeout.
Elizabethtown is back in action on Friday, April 15 at Catholic. Opening pitch of the doubleheader is set for 12 p.m.
