LANCASTER, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College men's volleyball team fell to Lancaster Bible in straight sets Wednesday night in non-conference action.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 10-7 overall, while the Chargers improve to 14- on the season.
Junior
Tony Camillo finished with a team-high six kills. Sophomore
Nate Seeger registered 17 assists and junior
Cameron Krebs tallied eight digs.
Graduate student Kole Horst paced Lancaster Bible with a double-double, recording 13 kills and 11 digs.
Tied at five early in the opening set, Seeger found Junior
Steve Swain for his first kill of the match. Etown would move ahead again at 7-6 before the Chargers rattled off three consecutive points to move ahead 9-7. Falling behind by as many as five (17-12), the Blue Jays would close within two at 17-15 after a service error and consecutive attack errors by Lancaster Bible. The Chargers, however, closed out the opening frame with an 8-1 run to take the first set 25-16.
After Lancaster Bible ran out to a 10-3 lead in the second set, Etown began to chip away and moved within three at 13-10 after an ace by senior
Tim Zeiber. The Chargers, however, stretched its advantage to nine (22-13), on its way to the 25-18 win and the 2-0 lead.
The Blue Jays grabbed the momentum early in the third, grabbing a 7-4 lead after Seeger found Swain for a kill. Lancaster Bible responded with a 4-0 run to move in front 8-7. The two teams continued to battle midway through the set, as Etown moved ahead once again (12-11) after a kill by Camillo and an ace from Swain. The Chargers, however, used another big, using an 11-3 to take the 22-15 lead. The Blue Jays had one final burst left in them, rattling off four consecutive points capped by a block from junior
Cheston Jacobs and Camillo to close with three at 22-19. Lancaster Bible, however, scored the final three points of the set to earn the sweep the 25-19 victory.
Elizabethtown returns to Thompson on Saturday, March 12 for a tri-match against Kean and St. Vincent. The Blue Jays will take on Kean at 12 p.m. followed by St. Vincent at 4 p.m.
