Lark makes it another walkoff winner for softball

CLERMONT, Fla. -- After needing extra innings in their second game of the day on Saturday, the Elizabethtown College softball team got its second walkoff win of the week when Amelia Lark brought home Kristen Aydelotte in the bottom of the eighth to beat New England College and help Etown complete its spring break trip at 6-4.

Game 1: Dubuque 2, Elizabethtown 1
The first game of the day was a scoreless affair through three innings until Dubuque (7-2) went ahead on a solo home run. The Spartans added another run in the fifth to make it a 2-0 game.

Courtney Fitzsimons came on to pinch hit in the sixth and sent a double that clanged off the center field wall. She moved up on a fly out to right field, and with one out, made it safely home on Kadyn Crisswell's sac fly RBI.

The Blue Jays were unable to rally for the game-tying run in the seventh and Dubuque held on for the 2-1 win.

Game 2: Elizabethtown 10, New England 9 (F/8)
Where the first game lacked some offense, the second had plenty for Elizabethtown. The Jays scored at least 10 runs for the second time this week, and needed to in order to get the win.

Lisa Scanlon, Crisswell, and Gillian Toomey each had RBIs for Etown in the first inning as they got ahead 3-0 on the Pilgrims. Aydelotte scored on an error in the second and Scanlon knocked in her second RBI in as many innings as the lead grew to 5-0.

New England (1-5) got three runs back in the third and trailed by two going into the bottom half of the frame. That's when Toomey launched her first home run over the left field fence to turn a 5-3 game into a 6-3 game.

NEC didn't go away as they were able to tie the game at 6-6. Once again, it was the long ball, this time from Paige Phillips, who smacked her first home run of the year to left to give the Blue Jays the lead back at 7-6. Aydelott drew a bases loaded walk in the inning to make it 8-6 and Jenna Davis scored on a Fitzsimons sac fly to center to push it to 9-6.

The Pilgrims were able to tie the game once again and get it to 9-9 in the seventh while holding Etown scoreless to force extras.

Phillips worked her way out of the eighth without giving up a run, despite the runner starting on second base.

Fitzsimons singled to move Aydelotte to third after she was the runner placed on second for Elizabethtown.

Lark was able to knock in Aydelotte for the game-winning run and give the Blue Jays the 10-9 walkoff win.

The softball team will host Hood on Thursday, March 10, for their first home doubleheader at their new facility.
