SCRANTON, Pa. -- Ashley Mistichelli hit her fifth career homerun for the Elizabethtown College softball team on Sunday at Scranton, but the Royals swept the Blue Jays in two games at Magis Field. Scranton won game one 9-3 before taking game two in five innings, 10-0.
Game 1: Scranton 9, Elizabethtown 3
Down 2-0 after the first inning,
Kaitlyn Witmer hit a one-out triple to right field to put a runner immediately into scoring position. Then, after
Amelia Lark took first on a hit-by-pitch, Mistichelli hit her first homer of the season and the third of the year for Elizabethtown (6-6, 0-2 Landmark) to put the Jays up 3-2.
Etown maintained the lead through the third, but Scranton (7-4, 2-0 Landmark) came alive in the fourth for four runs to jump ahead 6-3.
The Royals added two in the fifth and another in the sixth to provide plenty of support for starter Jennifer Sweeney. She threw a complete game to get the win for Scranton.
Grace Hussey and
Kadyn Crisswell added hits for the Blue Jays, along with a pair by Witmer and Mistichelli's homer.
Game 2: Scranton 10, Elizabethtown 0 (F/5)
Elizabethtown was held hitless through three innings until Witmer sent a two-out single up the middle in the fourth, her third hit of the day.
Meanwhile, the Jays trailed 5-0 as Scranton scored in each of the first three innings. A five-run fifth inning, after the Royals held Etown scoreless, ended game two with a 10-0 final.
Mistichelli had the Jays' other hit in game two.
The softball team will play at Penn State Harrisburg tomorrow for a non-conference doubleheader with game times set for 2 and 4 p.m. in Middletown, Pa.
