ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team outscored Swarthmore 8-2 in the second quarter on its way to the 16-11 win Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
With the victory, the Blue Jays improve to 2-3 on the season, while the Garnet drop its first game of the season and fall to 3-1.
Junior Riler Langen registered a career-high five points with a goal and four assists. Senior
Owen Yake tallied four goals to push his team-best total to 15. Classmate
Nick Cost finished with four points on a goal and three assists and sophomore
Gavin Gismondi recorded his fourth hat trick of the season with three goals.
Swarthmore was paced by sophomore Von Mabbs and senior Quin Seivold with four points apiece.
With the score tied at four in the second quarter, Etown opened up a six goal advantage with a 6-0 run to end the half and take a 10-6 lead into the locker room. Senior
Alex Kilgour had two goals over this stretch, including his final tally of the half with 15 seconds remaining on the clock and sophomore
Eric Hoover scored his first goal of his career.
After the Garnet closed within four at the start of the third quarter at 10-6, the Blue Jays pushed its lead back to six (13-7), closing out the period on a 3-1 run. Highlighting the final surge was a D-middie combo as sophomore
Connor Stewart found classmateÂ
Derek Baldwin for his first career goal.Â
Elizabethtown held Swarthmore at bay in the fourth quarter to complete its second win of the season, 16-11.
Sophomore
Brayden Franey (2-2) tallied 11 saves on 35 shots faced. Franey leads the Landmark with 68 saves on the season. Freshman Shane Nachsen (3-1) made seven saves on 40 shots faced in the loss.
Senior
Danny Gilbert had a dominant face-off performance, winning a career-high 21 and picking up a career-best 16 ground balls. He is tied for second in the conference with 77 won face-offs and second in ground balls (47).Â
Elizabethtown is back in action on Wendesday, March 9 at #15 Dickinson. Oppening face-off is set for 7 p.m.
