After Dickinson ran out to a 2-0 advantage in the opening five minutes, the Blue Jays responded with two goals of their own. Cummings found the back of the net first, picking up a ground ball in the front of the goal and rifling it home to move Etown within one (2-1) with just over eight to play in the first quarter. Less than 90 seconds later, Gismondi came from behind the goal, rolling to the left side of the cage and firing home his first of the game to tie the score at two. The two teams the traded goals until the Red Devils found the final goal of the opening period for the 4-3 led after one.

The Blue Jays grabbed the momentum at the start of the second, using a 3-1 run to score a 6-5 advantage with 11:04 on the clock. This rally was highlighted by a goal and an assist from Cost. Dickinson then tied the score at six before goals by Gismondi and senior Ben O'Connor gave Etown the 8-7  heading into the locker room. The Blue Jays out-shot the Red Devils 30-19 in the first half.

Dickinson battled back in the third quarter and managed to tie the score at nine with 2:24 remaining in the period. It looked as if it was going to be a tie game heading to the final quarter, but Yake pushed Etown back in front with a deep bounce shot, making the score 10-9 after three.

At the start of the fourth quarter Etown pushed its advantage back to two (11-9) as Cost found Cummings for the man-up goal with 14:09 remaining in the game. Etown stopped the run to tie the score at 12, as Kilgour rifled home his first of the game, knotting the score at 12 with 3:14 remaining. The game looked destined for overtime, but Dickinson managed to collect one final possession and after brief pile up in front of the goal, junior Skyler Schluter found Porter at the edge of the crease for the game-winning goal as time expired.
