Blue Jays Back on Track With Win Against Pride

CHESTER, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team outscored Widener 11-4 over the final three quarters to earn the 13-6 win in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 3-4 overall, while the Pride fall to 1-4 on the season.

Junior Riley Langen tallied a career-high seven points behind three goals and four assists. Sophomore Gavin Gismondi added four points of his own. Senior Owen Yake and junior Collin Cummings each finished with two goals. 

Senior Connor Heisman paced Widener with a game-high five goals. 

Heading into the second quarter tied at two, Etown rattled off three consecutive goals, capped off by a goal from senior Ben O'Connor to make the score 5-2 with 8:25 on the clock. Widener managed to cut the deficit to two (5-3) but the Blue Jays held onto the momentum with two more goals, taking a 7-3 lead into halftime. 

After the Pride scored the first goal of the third quarter, the Blue Jays responded with another run, scoring the final three goals of the period to push its advantage to six (10-4) after three. Langen tallied three points over this stretch with a goal and two assists.

Etown finished off its third win of the season in the fourth quarter, outscoring Widener 3-2 to preserve the 13-6 victory.

Brayden Franey (3-3) finished with 13 saves, while allowing a season-low six goals on 37 shots faced. Sophomore Keegan Billie (0-1) suffered the loss for Widener, allowing seven goals in the first half and making five saves.

Senior Danny Gilbert continued his hot start to the season, winning 17 face-offs and picking up a game-high 11 ground balls. Senior Wes Mills caused a career-high four turnovers, collected two ground balls, and scored his second career goal to lead the defense.

Elizabethtown continues its road swing at Messiah on Saturday, March 19. Opening face-off is set for 1 p.m.
