Women's basketball falls to #15 John Carroll in NCAA First Round

ANGOLA, Ind. -- A wonderful ride has unfortunately come to an end for the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team. The Blue Jays fell to 15th-ranked John Carroll 100-56 Friday evening at the MTI Center in NCAA Division III First Round action. Veronica Christ led Etown with a team-high 15 points.

John Carroll (23-4) got out to a 22-9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. An experienced starting lineup and roster, the Blue Streaks took a commanding 48-23 lead into halftime. 

Elizabethtown (20-6) shot 10-for-37 in the first half, unable to get into a good shooting rhythm. Cyleigh Wilson had a team-high nine points at the half. Christ and Summer McNulty each had six. Christ and DaniRae Renno both grabbed five first-half rebounds.

JCU used size to control the boards, outrebounding the Jays 65-36 on the night. Olivia Nagy had a game-high 18 for the Blue Streaks, along with 12 points. Sarah Balfour had a game-high 24.

After not getting to the foul line in the first half, Christ, McNulty, Clare Marchese, Cassandra Peris, Georgia Panopolous, and Katie Haefner all got to the line for Etown in the second half. McNulty (2), Marchese, Emily Prowell, and Taylor Huyck knocked down threes between the third and fourth quarters for the Jays. Emily Kramer had a team-best four rebounds in the second half.

Christ ended her illustrious career for Elizabethtown with 15 points and finishes her career with 1,519, the fourth-most in program history, which extends over 93 seasons. McNulty added 12 for the Blue Jays. Wilson was 3-for-6 from deep and Jessica King had a team-high six boards.

John Carroll advances to the Second Round and will play the winner of Trine/Immaculata.
