ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Kadyn Crisswell homered for the third consecutive game and helped the Elizabethtown College softball team to a game one win over Drew in Saturday's Landmark Conference doubleheader at the new Nest. The Blue Jays took game one 8-3 before the Rangers earned the split by winning game two, 4-1.
Paige Phillips recorded her sixth win of the year in game one.
Game 1: Elizabethtown 8, Drew 3
Crisswell sent her third home run of the season, the third in as many games for the freshman outfielder, over the left field fence to give Elizabethtown (8-8, 1-3 Landmark) a 1-0 in the bottom of the second. It was the first hit and home run at the team's new facility.Â
Drew (15-5, 2-2 Landmark) tied the game in the third, but a big bottom of the fourth helped the Blue Jays pull away from the Rangers.
Emily Polimeni's bases loaded single through the left side scored
Olivia Prosser to break the tie and give Etown a 2-1 lead. Then,
Ashley Mistichelli lifted a three-run double to center field, clearing the bases of Blue Jays to make it 5-1 for Elizabethtown.
The Rangers got a run back in the sixth and seventh, but the Jays' eight runs were more than enough for their senior hurler.
Megan Thomas, Phillips, and Crisswell each added RBIs for the Jays in the sixth that made it 8-2 going into the seventh.Â
Phillips threw another complete game to get the victory and struck out five in her seven innings of work. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Crisswell finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Polimeni and
Amelia Lark also had multi-hit efforts in the win.
Game 2: Drew 4, Elizabethtown 1
Crisswell knocked in her third RBI of the day in the bottom half of the first that gave Elizabethtown another early lead. Only this time, the Rangers' pitching held them in check. Drew starter Teagan Bradley surrendered only three hits all game, and all of them came in the first inning.
Though, Etown maintained its 1-0 lead through four innings until the Rangers got on the board with two in the fifth to grab a 2-1 lead.
They took advantage of the struggling bats for the Jays and pumped in two more in the seventh to ensure the 4-1 win and get the split at The Nest.
Courtney Fitzsimons,
Ashley Judd, and Crisswell had the hits for Elizabethtown.
The softball team will host Dickinson on Tuesday, March 29, for a non-conference doubleheader. Game times are scheduled for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
