NEWARK, N.J. - In the team's Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) opener, the Elizabethtown College men's volleyball team fell to #7 Rutger-Camden, 3-1, Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 9-2 on the season and 0-1 in league play, while the scarlet raider's improve to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in the CVC.
Junior
Blake Hildebrand finished the afternoon with 10 kills, eight digs, and two aces. Classmate
Steve Swain hit .304 with 10 kills and sophomore
Nate Seeger dished out a team-high 32 assists. Junior
Cameron Krebs recorded a match-high 11 digs, while junior
Tony Camillo registered two solo blocks and two block assists.Â
Junior Arvind Kumar led Rutges-Newark with 18 kills and seven digs.
After dropping the first set, 25-18, Etown battled back in the second. Down 10-8 in the earl going, the Blue Jays rattled off three straight points capped off by a kill from sophomore
Eric Hierl to move ahead by one (11-10). The two teams swapped the lead seven more times ending at 23-22 after a kill fom Camillo gave Elizabethtown the advantage. The Scarlet Knights, however, snatched back momentum, rattling off the final three points for the 25-23 win and the 2-0 lead.
Down 15-12 in the third set, the Blue Jays responded with three straight points, capped off by a kill from Swain, tying the score at 15. Etown continued to hang tough, trailing by one at 21-20 before rallying with four consecutive points behind kills from Seeger and sophomore
Nick Chapman. Rutgers-Newark managed one more point, but a kill by Hildebrand gave the Blue Jays the second set, 25-22.
The Scarlet Knights, however, would close out the Saturday afternoon tilt with a 25-18 win in the fourth for the 3-1 win.
Elizabethtown is back in action on Tuesday, February 22 at Cairn. Opening serve is set for 8 p.m.
