ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team got off to a slow start, but was able to make it a game in the fourth quarter and ultimately came up short against No. 18 Scranton, 64-55.
Veronica Christ led all scorers with 21 points in the game.
Scranton (21-2, 12-0 Landmark), on the other hand, was hot out of the gate, hitting six of their nine three-pointers in the first quarter as they got out ahead 22-12 after one. Elizabethtown struggled from the field, but went 9-for-13 from the foul line. Christ and
Jessica King combined to go 7-for-9 at the free throw line in the first quarter.

Summer McNulty, and Cyleigh combined to score 18 of the team's 20 points in the second quarter as they got within seven by halftime, 39-32.
The Blue Jays held the Royals to 20 percent from the floor in the third and 13 points, but were still struggling offensively, only putting up nine and trailed by 11 heading into the fourth.
A three from Bridget Monaghan gave Scranton a 14-point lead, 57-43, with 8:57 left in the game. Etown clamped down, not allowing the Royals a single point for over five minutes of game action. Christ and McNulty helped get the Jays within eight, and following a traveling violation on Scranton,
Lindsay Boyd's layup cut the deficit to six with 4:27 to go.
McNulty knocked down another jumper a few possessions later to get within five. Then, with 1:46 left, Christ drove baseline and found King on the opposite block for the left-handed finish and Elizabethtown was down just three, 58-55.
The Royals were able to hold off the Blue Jays over the last minute as Elizabethtown couldn't get the shots to fall. Abby Anderson hit down six foul shots over the final 1:22 and Scranton remained unbeaten in the Landmark with the 64-55 win.
McNulty was also in double figures for Etown with 13 points.
DaniRae Renno had a team-high nine rebounds.
The women's basketball team hosts Catholic on Wednesday, February 16, at 7 p.m.
