SELINSGROVE, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team locked in the number three seed in the Landmark Conference tournament, Saturday after the Blue Jays defeated Drew, 3-0 and Susquehanna, 3-2 in a five-set thriller. Senior,
Bryanna Miller recorded her 1,000th career kill in the match against Susquehanna as she totaled 21 kills.
Set one between the Blue Jays and Rangers started close as following a kill from Miller, the set was tied at 4-4. Etown went on a 6-2 run with Miller's two service aces closing out the run to lead, 10-6. The Jays kept pulling away from Drew as a kill from
Emma Bitner and Miller followed by an ace from
Lucy Stern put Etown up, 19-11. A Drew service error, a kill from
Kambrie Hepler and a Miller ace brought the Blue Jays to set point before the Rangers added two final points.
Gianna Krinock smacked down set point giving the Jays a 25-16 win. Set two saw Drew start off with a 6-3 lead after a kill. A Ranger attack error then tied up the set at eight-all. The Rangers re-took the lead before Etown rattled off six consecutive points. Three Ranger attack errors extended Elizabethtown's lead, 18-12. Drew couldn't keep up as one final kill from
Courtney Westman ended the set, 25-20. To start set three, the teams went back-n-forth as they tied it up at 5-5 with a kill from Miller that was followed by a six-point run from Drew to take the lead. The Blue Jays came within three after a kill from
Georgianna Kahley and an ace from Krinock. A five-point run from the Blue Jays turned their lead to, 21-17. A kill from
Kara Davies and an ace from Krinock sealed the 25-21 win over the Rangers.
Jena Minnick tallied a career-high 14 digs while also adding 13 assists for a double-double. Miller recorded nine kills, 18 digs, and four service aces.
In Elizabethtown's second Landmark match of the day the Blue Jays won, 3-2 (27-25, 18-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-11) in a five-set thriller locking up the third seed in the Landmark Tournament. In set one, Susquehanna jumped out to an 11-5 lead after two Etown attack errors. Etown crept closer with a kill from Davies and two Riverhawk attack errors. Elizabethtown came within after two Krinock kills sandwiched a Susquehanna attack error. Two kills from Miller and one from Kahley gave the Blue Jays the 25-24 lead. Susquehanna tied it up at 25-25 before Miller and
Katie Scaggs smacked down kills to win, 27-25. The Riverhawks brought new energy into set two as they led 15-9. The Blue Jays trailed by four after a kill from Miller and Davies. Susquehanna closed out set two with a 6-3 run following six kills to win, 25-18. Set three was similar to the second but Etown kept things closer as they led, 8-6 after Scaggs smacked down a kill. The Riverhawks took the lead at 12-10 and then extended their lead 19-16. A kill from Krinock and a Susquehanna attack error brought the Jays to 22 before the Riverhawks won, 25-22 with a kill.
Starting off set four, three service aces from Miller took the Blue Jays out in front, 8-5. Etown pulled away by four-points after a kill from Kahley. Ending set four the Blue Jays rattled off seven consecutive points coming within set point, 24-15. Susquehanna recorded two more kills before a Riverhawk attack error gave Elizabethtown the 25-17 win in set four. The final set was a close matchup as the teams traded points. Two kills in a row from Scaggs brought the Blue Jays to a 7-4 lead. Susquehanna came within one at 11-10 after an Etown bad set. A kill from Miller and an attack error extended the Blue Jays lead, 13-10. Susquehanna added one final kill before Scaggs sent home two kills to win, 15-11.
On her way to 1,000th career-kill, Miller totaled 21 kills 20 digs and four service aces. Hepler totaled 28 digs while Krinock totaled 18. Krinock also added 12 kills while Kahley tallied 11 kills. Bitner recorded a career-high 34 assists.
Elizabethtown picks up their 23rd win of the season as they enter the Landmark Conference Tournament as the third seed. The Blue Jays will travel to two-seeded Scranton on Wednesday, November 2nd.
