WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A late first-half goal was all Catholic needed to hand the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team its first Landmark loss of the season on Saturday at Carlini Field. The Blue Jays did get help and finish the day as the No. 2 seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs.

Catholic's (11-2-4, 7-0-0 Landmark) quick transition with time running down in the first half led to a called penalty in the box. From the spot with only 13 seconds before halftime, Domenico Caltabiano scored for the Cardinals to put them up 1-0 going into the break. CATHU outshot Elizabethtown (8-5-4, 3-1-3 Landmark) 8-2 in the first half.

Goalie Kelvin Del Cid needed to make two saves in the first 10 minutes of the second half to keep the Blue Jays within a goal.

Etown couldn't get the attack going, finally getting of its first shot of the second half in the 68th minute, though off target. Ed Rainey's chance off an Elizabethtown corner was wide.

Catholic held the Jays to just three second-half shots, none on goal.

EC did receive help from Goucher, as the Gophers came back in the second half to beat Moravian 2-1 to assist the Blue Jays in clinching the second seed. Elizabethtown will host Goucher on Wednesday, November 2, for a Landmark Conference semifinal.
