ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown field hockey team fell, 7-2 to Catholic on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays honored their five seniors;
Grace Hussey,
Sydney Aguilar,
Emma Miller,
Chloe Smith, and
Madeline Kachel prior to the game.
Catholic started off the first quarter with complete control. Within the first minute of play following a penalty corner, the Cardinals were on the board first. Three minutes later, Smith recorded her fourth penalty stroke goal of the season to tie it up, 1-1. Catholic tallied two more goals ending the first quarter with a 3-1 lead. The second quarter saw Catholic carry over their momentum from the first as they added two more goals, extending their lead 5-1. The Cardinals did not allow a Blue Jay shot or corner in the second quarter of play.
In the 38th minute, Catholic tacked on their sixth goal of the game and then another about a minute later. Smith took her second shot of the game in the 42nd minute but it was saved by the Cardinal goalie. In the fourth quarter, the Blue Jays held together a strong defense as they only allowed two shots in the final quarter. In the final eight minutes of the quarter, Etown held possession as Smith tacked on two more shots following penalty corners. In the 58th minute, after a corner insert from Hussey,
Riley Stephan found the back of the net for the Jays second goal.
Catholic went 25-5 in shots while also holding the advantage in corners, 18-4.
Angelina Giglio-Tos recorded six saves in the net in the first half, while Kachel recorded five in the second half.
