WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The Elizabethtown Blue Jays cruised to their third Landmark Conference win of the season as they swept Catholic, 3-0, Wednesday evening in the DuFour Center.
Set one saw Elizabethtown with a 6-2 following two Catholic attack errors. The Blue Jays doubled their lead at 14-7 after four consecutive points as
Courtney Westman and
Bryanna Miller smacked down kills. The Cardinals then picked up three points in a row cutting Etown's lead. Two Cardinal errors brought Elizabethtown within five of set point. Closing out set one the Jays went on a 4-6 run as
Katie Scaggs and Westman added a kill a piece and
Kambrie Hepler recorded her first service ace of the match.
Set two was closer as the two traded points as Etown recorded a .132 hitting percentage and the Cardinals recording a .171 hitting percentage. Catholic began to pull away at 8-6 after adding three points in a row. The teams continued to trade points before Catholic recorded a kill sandwiched between two Elizabethtown attack errors. Catholic extended their lead by five points until the Blue Jays tied up the set at 21-21 after four consecutive points. The Cardinals added two more points before Etown responded with three more in a row at set point. Heper's second ace of the match plus kills from Miller and
Kara Davies ended set two, 26-24.
Two Elizabethtown kills sandwiched a Catholic attack error as the Blue Jays started off set three with a 8-5 lead. A kill from
Gianna Krinock kept Etown with a two-point lead. The Cardinals tied up the set 11-11 before the Jays went on a 4-0 run. Catholic again fought back and tied up the set at 16-16. Three kills from Scaggs and an ace from
Jena Minnick brought the Blue Jays out in front at 23-17. Catholic added three more points but a kill from Miller and Scaggs sealed the 25-20 win.
Miller led the match with 12 kills (.207) and 15 digs as she recorded her seventh double-double of the season. Hepler totled 13 kills and three service aces. Scaggs and Krinock each totaled seven kills while Krinock also added nine digs.
The Blue Jays will play their final two regular season matches as they face Susquehanna and Drew in Landmark action on Saturday, October 29th.
