Goucher comes back to tie men's soccer on Senior Day

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team saw its second-half lead disappear as Goucher came back to tie the Blue Jays in Landmark Conference action on Saturday at Ira R. Herr Field. Prior to the game, Etown celebrated its seniors; Jeffrey Bennett, Mehluko Letsoalo, Dylan Hairfield, Ethan Higgins, Ryan Hepler, and Kelvin Del Cid.

Neither side could solve the other in the first half as the game went into the break scoreless.

Elizabethtown (8-4-4, 3-0-3 Landmark) won a free kick on the far side near the left corner in the 62nd minute. Gavin Domsohn delivered a ball toward the back post that found Ed Rainey's head as he smashed home his third of the campaign to put the Jays ahead 1-0. It was yet another set piece goal for Etown.

Nearly 10 minutes later, the Gophers responded with a set piece goal of their own. A little higher up the field and outside of the box, Ali Kazim Nakhid run across the six yard box to meet the ball and headed home his 10th of the season in the 72nd minute to tie the game 1-1.

The Blue Jays had two opportunities back-to-back in the box late in the game, but both chances were blocked and eventually cleared away.

Del Cid made one save in the game for Elizabethtown.

The men's soccer team needs to only draw, or win, or have Moravian tie or lose, on Saturday, October 29, to clinch the No. 2 seed in the Landmark. The Blue Jays finish the regular season at Catholic at 1 p.m.
