ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown college field hockey team fell 3-4 in an overtime thriller to visiting Moravian in a Landmark Conference game, Wednesday afternoon.
The first quarter was scoreless with Moravian holding possession as they took seven shots. In the 17th minute of the second quarter, Moravian struck first and just about a minute later the Greyhounds led, 2-0. The score remained 2-0 through the rest of the quarter as Elizabethtown took their first penalty corner in the 21st minute followed by a blocked shot from
Megan Meyer.
The Blue Jays got on the board in the 40th minute as
Grace Hardy assisted
Grace Hussey to cut the Greyhounds lead. Just 52 seconds later, Moravian fought back taking a two-goal lead. To finish off the third quarter after a corner, Hussey fired off a shot but it went wide. In the fourth quarter, the Blue Jays again cut the Greyhounds lead after a penalty stroke by
Chloe Smith who put in the ball to the left of the goalie. Four minutes later, off a Moravian save, Hardy tied up the game, 3-3 with just three minutes left in regulation.
In the overtime period, Etown was able to take one shot but Moravian held the majority of possession. In the 68th minute, the Greyhounds scored the game-winning goal.
Moravian held the advantage in shots, 18-9.
Angelina Giglio-Tos recorded a season-high eight saves.
Emma Miller picked up her first career two defensive saves while
Chase O'Neal totaled one.
Elizabethtown will travel to Drew this Saturday, October 15th at 1 PM for a conference game.
