Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Groh's goal the difference in men's soccer's win over Juniata

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- In what is likely the fastest goal recorded by the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team to start a game, Jake Groh's tally only 10 seconds into the game was the difference as the Blue Jays shut out Juniata on Saturday to get their first Landmark Conference win of the season.

Elizabethtown (4-4-2, 1-0-1 Landmark) started the game with the ball and went right up the field. Ryan Hepler played Groh into the box, and though his touch got out in front of him and onto the keeper, the goalie wasn't able to handle the ball as it bounced back into Groh's path and the junior smashed it home from eight yards out to give the Jays the one-up lead early on.

Senior Kelvin Del Cid made two saves in the first ten minutes of play, but finished the game with three as the Jays' defense subdued Juniata's (6-5, 0-2 Landmark) attack. Etown led 1-0 at the half.

Plenty of possession for the Blue Jays in the game and the second half. The Eagles played a man down for the final 29 minutes after a red card was issued on the defender for denying a goal scoring opportunity as the last defender back.

While Groh's third goal of the season held up and despite only four second-half shots, the defense did its job over 90 minutes. They held Juniata to six total shots and only one in the second half.

The Blue Jays will travel to Immaculata on Wednesday, October 5, at 7 p.m.
