SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's basketball team held a slim advantage at halftime, but Scranton got away in the second half to beat the Blue Jays 85-72 Saturday afternoon in Landmark Conference action at the John Long Center.
Jalin Robinson had a team-high 20 points for Etown.
Elizabethtown lead by as many as seven, 29-22, with 8:40 to go in the first half after
Tyreke Herbert's and-one play. The Royals quickly cut into the lead and got it back down to two with a minute's time. Etown then trailed by four with a little over four and a half to go in the first but a six-point burst from Robinson,
Rance Russo, and
Jared Archer got the Jays back in front. Robinson closed out the half with the final four points to send EC into the locker room ahead by a basket, 42-40.
Dylan Rowe started off Elizabethtown in the second half with a layup down low on
Ryan Fitzpatrick's assist. Robinson knocked down one of his two three's moments later as Etown led by six, 47-41. Fitzpatrick increased it to eight a possession later.
Scranton worked it back down to a one-possession game and, with under 10 minutes left in the regulation, began to get away from the Blue Jays. A two-point deficit grew to seven and it was too little, too late for Etown to recover. The Royals didn't allow any type of run to cut into their lead as it remained in double digits.
Robinson was one of four players in double figures for Elizabethtown. Fitzpatrick and Russo each had 13 while Rowe added 11. Herbert had a team-best eight boards.
Elizabethtown will travel to face Juniata on Wednesday, January 26, at 7 p.m.
