MADISON, N.J. - The Elizabethtown College men's basketball team outscored Drew by 13 in the second half, but could not complete comeback, falling to the Rangers 90-79 Monday afternoon in Landmark Conference action.
With the loss, the Blue Jays slip to 5-8 overall and 0-3 in league play, while Drew improves to 10-5 on the season and remain undefeated in the Landmark with a 4-0 mark.
Senior
Jalin Robinson finished with a team-high 16 points., five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Sophomore
Alon Gorham came off the bench to add 12 points and classmate
Tyreke Herbert rallied 10 points. Junior
Dylan Rowe came just short of a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.Â
Drew had two players with 20 or more points, as junior Howard McBurnie Jr. scored 26 and senior David Gervase added 21. Â
The Rangers ran out to a 12 point lead (22-10) midway through the first half after graduate student Lybrant Robinson found sophomore Andrew Turco for a three ith 9"50 remaining in the period. Drew increased its advantage to 24, taking a 53-29 lead heading into the locker room.Â
Down 20 with 14:40 remaining, the Blue Jays mounted a charge, using an 11-3 run to cut deficit to 11 at 62-51. Gorham and freshman
Jadon Green each finished this stretch with four points.
Fifth year senior
Ryan Fitzpatrick then cut the deficit to 10, taking a pass from Rowe and laying it in to make the score 65-55 with 9:30 on the clock.Â
However, that is as close as the Blue Jays would get as the Rangers closed out its fourth Landmark victory of the season, 90-79.
Elizabethtown shot 42.4% (28-66) from the field and made 5-19 (26.3%) from three. Drew finished the game 34-73 (46.6%) overall and shot 36.7% (11-30) from three.Â
A fast turn around for the Blue Jays as the return to Thompson on Wednesday, January 19 to host Goucher. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
