ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Sydney Aguilar scored her first career goal and
Angelina Giglio-Tos posted a shutout in her first career start as the Elizabethtown College field hockey team blanked Hood 3-0 at Wolf Field on Saturday.
Grace Hardy and
Chloe Smith also tallied in the game for the Blue Jays.
There were only four shots between the teams over the first two quarters of the game. Elizabethtown (1-0) held a slim advantage in the shots category, 3-1.
The Jays got on the board not long into the third quarter. Aguilar, who missed her freshman season due to injury and with 2020 cancelled because of COVID-19, was playing in her first career game for Etown. The junior made long-waited debut worth it, first helping set up Hardy's goal 1:38 into the third.
Nearly 20 minutes later, Aguilar was on the receiving end of a cross from
Anna Mostoller as Hood (0-2) was unable to contain the ball off the corner insert. Mostoller pushed a pass toward the far post, where Aguilar was waiting to one-touch the ball into the cage. That made it 2-0 with less than 10 minutes to play.
Smith sent a shot that beat Blazers' goalie Richana Brown from the middle of the circle after beating a defender. This came off another corner for Elizabethtown.
The defense held strong throughout the four quarters, only allowing the one shot. Giglio-Tos did not need to make a save to earn the shutout.
The field hockey team will be back at Wolf Field on Wednesday, September 8, for a 4:30 p.m. non-conference matchup with York (Pa.).
