Field hockey drops one on road at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. -- The Fords scored early and held the Elizabethtown College field hockey team in check Wednesday at Swan Field. The Blue Jays scored late to breakup the shutout, but Haverford went on to win 4-1. Grace Hardy scored for Etown in the loss and Angelina Giglio-Tos tied a season-high with 13 saves.

Haverford (6-0) got on the board a little over halfway through the first quarter as Ravenel Davis scored her first of the game. Davis tallied her second of the quarter with 2:36 remaining, tapping in the ball at the left post off a corner play. Giglio-Tos made back-to-back saves at the end of the quarter to keep it 2-0.

Anna Mostoller put a ball on goal in the second quarter for Elizabethtown (2-3), but the shot was stopped by goalie Hannah Roth. It was the only shot on goal for the Blue Jays in the quarter.

Trailing 4-0 in the fourth, Hardy jumped back into a tie for the team lead in goals with her third of the season coming midway through the final period. Chloe Smith slid a ball down low across the box, which Hardy received and fired into the cage.

Grace Hussey and Smith had chances in the final minutes of the game, but Roth denied both players a goal and kept it 4-1.

The field hockey team remains on the road as they head to Stockton on Saturday, September 18, for a 1 p.m. non-conference matchup with the Ospreys.
